Internet Set v4.0
*************************
23rd July 1996
Note to users of Net-Set v3.1 "SORRY GUYS"
------------------------------------------
I did not know it was a bit buggy but thanks for all your E-Mail
telling me as I also found out some new bits that have been corrected
in version 4.0.
It's hard to predict every type of Modem and Amiga setup, but I have tried.
This was bodged by Kevin Anderson andersok@mail.bogo.co.uk
Please feel free to give me a Darn Good Rollocking.
The point of this set is to provide an easy entry for new Net surfers
and people like me who want to get on with the minimum of fuss and
no need for a degree in Unix etc.
This set does not include an IRC client but you can get one from Aminet
once your up and running as well as changing the supplied App's if need be
when you are happy and confident.
AmIRC, mFTP, mNews and MetaTool are all good App's available from Aminet.
Read plenty of Amiga mag's for more info and reviews etc.
Requirements:- (you are free to try it on a lower spec "Your on your own")
--------------
***** NOTE *****
The real world bare minimum for decent Net access and usage is an A1200
with 2mb Fast ram (4mb in total) but you can use lower spec's but don't
expect to use the top App's, fast modem speeds and see Web pages in all
their glory.
A MODEM "yes a modem or you could shout very load" (28.8 or 14.4)
OS 2.1 is the bare minimum any lower forget it. (OS 3.x recomended)
2mb ram bare minimum 1mb chip + 1mb fast (4mb highly recomemded)
Hard drive with about 3mb free (you will some more for your downloads etc)
020 CPU or above (on lower machines, should work but slow)
MUI 3.3 (on Aminet and all good PD houses)
Gif and Jpeg datatypes OS 3.x only (included in this set if you need them)
A dialup Internet account with Dynamic IP Address assigning.
(i.e. your ISP gives you one when you log on) "No Jokes"
------------------------------------------------------------
**** YOU MUST HAVE ARexx ON YOU SYSTEM as this system relies on it. ****
(i.e. look in your Workbench:System drawer and see if RexxMast is there if
not put it there or this won't work. It comes as standard with OS 2.04 and
above)
If you have lower all I can say is "well I warned you, you dinosaur"
Whats in it then:-
1) AmiTCP-4.0 demo (Not time limited or restricted etc)
2) Voyager v1.0 Freeware (Web Browser/News reader)
(Amiga Web,News, and Aminet FTP sites all setup for you)
3) AirMail Shareware (E-Mail)
4) AmFTP Shareware (FTP and Archie)
5) Bogomip Amiga Dashboard (GUI interface) Freeware by me!
(for dialing you ISP and launching net applications etc)
7) UUdecoder/encoder (for News group binaries etc)
8) FastView (Graphic file viewer `very fast')
9) ZGif and jfif datatypes (OS 3.x only)
10) Extensive and easy documentation and help files.
11) Plus lha and lzx archivers and ppMore text viewer
12) Most App's etc pre-set to work out of the box in the true Amiga fashion
(E-Mail needs your userID) with no need to answer loads of cryptic
questions and edit Startup-Sequences with various assigns etc.
13) No Script editing unless you've got an manky old Amiga (i.e. std A500) or
some realy strange setup. If so "Not my fault Matey".
14) No Comms package needed it does all the dialling for you.
Any way good luck and have fun.
Feel free to E-Mail me with problems and suggestions. andersok@mail.bogo.co.uk
Note to ISP's you could set this up for your system and get all those Amiga
owners connected.
